I've been reading a lot of lifestyle blogs lately, Effy Talks Life & Love Mealie being two of my favorite reads at the moment.
I feel like I can always relate to Effy's stories about university life & although I'm not a single girl, Amelia's series 'how to be single' is a brilliant read!
- So in a nutshell, if you haven't check them out, you really must!
Anyway, these blogs really got me thinking about the ideal life.
I mean an ideal life for me would be a massive Victorian house, lots of big dogs, my dream job as a PR executive & the Creature (Dan) still by my side.. But that's a while off yet.
So at the moment I have to stick to my noisy student apartment (with 5 of the coolest girls I've ever met I might add), job seeking & constant flow of uni work.
So when life gets me down in the dumps I like to stick to something I call the 'moody bird remedy'
-Yep, I've just referred to myself as a bird-
1.
Hot chocolate
Its generic pick me up but never fails to cheer me up!
But I'm actually renowned in my flat for my awesome hot chocolate skills. & of course a proper hot chocolate isn't just powder and water, no!
You're feeling down in the dumps, forget the diet, throw away that green tea & reach for the full fat milk, cream & marshmallows!
Bugger it, shave some chocolate on top if you want.. Because feeling that little bit rebellious against healthy eating might just give you that naughty but satisfied feeling you need.
I know when I do this, it really makes me smile into my cup.
2.
My Mama's jumper
I'm a serial wardrobe-lifter at my Mama's. We're practically the same size so we're forever swapping clothes with each other.
But I have this one jumper, well, more of a sweat top really that she bought for herself but after having a sick day a few years ago she gave it too me to keep warm. Ever since its been my favorite cuddly item & I refuse to part with it
Of course for you it may be your boyfriends hoodie or just a particularly comfortable top you love. But I find one of the best pick me ups is feeling the love from your wardrobe
3.
Disney films
I'm such a big kid! - But theres nothing like an old Disney classic to get a smile back on your face!
My personal favourites are The little mermaid & Aristocats
I tend to watch Disney films regularly just simply because they make me happy, and remind me of when I was a little ginger afro'd kid!
Any film that takes you back to a happy place is a great reminder to pick yourself up when you're being moody, they really do lift your mood!
So whether you're sad or just plain bored, dig out that old dvd lurking in your movie stash & remind yourself, it's not all doom & gloom.
4.
Treats
I'm a big promoter of treating yourself once in a while whether it be a new beauty product or just some sweets from the local newsagents. Taking the time to really think about yourself and what you want right that second could be the ticket to wiping that big ole' rain cloud above your head.
When I'm feeling really crap, I have a tendency to buy myself a tub of pringles, some strawberry laces & if I'm not too hard up a cheap dvd from That's Entertainment.
My most recent down in the dumps purchase was Fival goes west!
5.
Styling
Its something us beauty bloggers do a lot for our blogs & going out but I was surprised to find out that a lot of you don't do it when you're feeling down.
Last week I had a moment of pure out of the blue insecurity about my appearance & after a long hot shower, ended up playing with my hair for hours.
Its something I don't do all that often, I'm so used to my effortless wavy hair that I never really branched out into other styles. But I had a go at a vintage style last week it really lifted my spirits!
It made me feel really good that not only had I done it myself as a hair styling novice but I also suited it
So next time you have an off day, change something in your makeup routine or try a different hairstyle. It could only be subtle, but if you know its there and it makes you feel a little daring or really pretty, its worth the extra 5 or 10 minutes effort!
What relaxes/makes you happy when you're feeling down?
