The Cost of a Weekend in Buenos Aires

We found Buenos Aires more expensive than we had expected especially as others had said it was much cheaper than Rio. I would say it is marginally cheaper than Rio but certainly more expensive than Santiago in Chile. I know the currency in Argentina tends to fluctuate and currently the British Pound is a little weak so that could go some way towards explaining this. Or it could have been because we wanted to eat in those highly recommend slightly expensive places as we only had two days in the city. Who knows. But I’ll break it all down for you and hopefully provide a general guide for how much you will need.

Transport $480 // £23

Airport to City Taxi $530 // £25 (Shared between two people)

City to Airport Taxi $430 // £20 (Shared between two people)

Both taxis were prebooked using Taxiezeiza, as recommended by our Airbnb host.

Sightseeing $350 // £17

Tourist Bus $350 // £17 – We bought a 24 hour ticket for the tourist bus but it wasn’t value for money and the service was pretty poor. I would suggest taking local busses between the neighbourhoods instead.

Accommodation $862 // £41

Food $1767 // £84

I always find food is one of the biggest expenses when traveling and this trip was certainly that way as Buenos Aires is famous for its amazing steak and wine.

In Buenos Aires expect to pay a sitting fee per a person at dinner, this is for cutlery and bread. The prices varied for this fee and we paid $20 at Rodi Bar and $30 at Don Julio.

This includes half fees for taxis and accommodation so you would need to adjust this if traveling solo. We also concentrated on food over sightseeing or tango so if you plan on doing more than just eating you might need a bigger budget. And you will obviously need to factor in transport to and from the city but that all depends on where you are coming from.
