The Blue Wave Is Being Built On The Votes Of Women
If a blue wave does sweep across the country this November (flipping at least one house of Congress), it will be due to women voters. I'm not trying to discount the importance of men voting for Democrats. We need all the men we can get. But it is women who are the driving force behind the blue wave, and they will be the ones to make it a reality.
Note in the chart above that men support Republicans by a 6 point margin (49% Republican and 43% Democratic). But among women voters there is a preference for Democrats by a 16 point margin (54% Democratic and 38% Republican). If women and men just voted in equal numbers, the Democrats would have a very good election. But women tend to vote in larger numbers than men do, and that could help to swing some districts to Democrats that the GOP was counting on winning. And it doesn't hurt that the Democrats have a lot of women running for Congress this year.
The chart above reflects the results of a recent Pew Research Center Poll -- done between June 5th and 12th of a national sample of 2,002 adults, with a 2.6 point margin of error.
