Everyone loves feeling cozy and relaxed, right? So don't overthink it...give the gift of comfort! Slippers have long been a favorite gift during the winter months, especially for parents and grandparents. But the BEST slippers can be worn anytime of year, anywhere, and by anyone! Here's how to find them:
Step 1: Make Your List
Make a list of friends and family who for whom you plan to buy this holiday season. Select the ones you think might appreciate the PERFECT pair of slippers.
Now that you've found your slipper candidates, try to answer the following questions:
- Where do they live? Focus on terrain, both indoors and out. Does the person live in a city, with lots of pavement and few natural surfaces? Or the country, where a trip to the mailbox often includes dirt, mud...or other brown substances? Is their home mostly carpeted? Super-slippery tile? These questions will help you decide on the best sole type for the giftee's lifestyle.
- How do they "relax" at home? Do they kick their feet up with a good book or movie? Or, do they tend to drift out to the yard or garden for some quality puttering? These activities should also influence your soling choice.
- What are their true colors? These are shoes to be worn at home, where the giftee can most relax and be themselves. So, in what colors are they most comfortable? Don't be afraid to embrace the person's fun side, and if that means color and/or fringe, go for it!
- How do they measure up? Yes, size matters. But guessing a person's shoe size can be trickier than choosing between a Small, Medium, and Large sweater that's supposed to fit awkwardly anyway. Step 3: The Thanksgiving Snoop
Does your slipper profile have some holes? The early holiday season is a great time to do some recon! Don't let a Thanksgiving get-together or early holiday party go to waste!
First sleuthing priority: shoe size. So your giftee kicked off some shoes at the door when they arrived for Thanksgiving? Check them! Did they leave footprints in mud or snow on the way to the porch? Measure them! If you get really desperate, try to sit next to them during the event and slyly compare your foot side-by-side with theirs. Estimate the length difference, and then extrapolate their shoe size based on your own. Get creative!
In order to distract your target from your stealthy sizing tactics, carefully-crafted small talk can be used both as a diversion and an investigative tool. This would be a great time to catch-up on such things as where the giftee might live, what their new apartment is like, and does it have a garden? You might also take a moment to compliment the color of their new sweater and gauge their enthusiasm towards it. Go on, spy on your loved ones, it's for a good cause!
