The Best TV Series of 2014

5. Gotham
“Gotham” might be the most underrated series of 2014. The name says it all. The series tells the story of Gotham at the time when Batman was still a child and James Gordon started as a police officer in Gotham City. With its darkness and love to the characters it’s one of the most interesting TV series of 2014 that are based on a comic book.
Genre: Crime, Thriller, Drama

4. The Strain

“The Strain” tells the story of a group of everyday New Yorkers who fight against a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an evil strain of vampirism. The series is not your typical vampire story. The vampires have a very Nosferatu-ish style and the story goes back into the past until Nazi Germany. People who like shows like “The Walking Dead” will most likely enjoy “The Strain” too.
Genre: Thriller, Horror, Drama

3. True Detective
Two detectives hunt for a serial killer for a period of 17 years. The series shows its brilliance in flashbacks until the point when time catches up with itself and in its development of the characters. In the end it shows man as the cruelest animal. Viewers who like a slow narrative culture and Matthew McConaughey will like it.
Genre: Crime, Drama

2. Penny Dreadful
“Penny Dreadful” combines a lot of stories and characters from 19th-century Irish and British fiction (known as “penny dreadfuls”) like Victor Frankenstein and his monster from Mary Shelley´s “Frankenstein”, Dorian Gray from Oscar Wilde´s “The Picture of Dorian Gray” and Abraham Van Helsing and Mina Harker from Bram Stoker´s “Dracula”. In London these characters fight together against supernatural threats. Great actors like Eva Green and horrific scenes await you!
Genre: Horror, Drama

1. Fargo
For us the best new TV series of 2014 is the dark comedy-crime drama “Fargo”. In the year 1996 the Coen Brothers made a film by the same name and were also involved in the series as producers. It tells the story of a small town in Minnesota in which a drifter named Lorne Malvo arrives. With his malice and violence he influences the citizens and causes a series of crimes. One word: Brilliant series! (or two)
Genre: Crime, Thriller, Drama

The Worst TV Series of 2014

The Flash
The series is based on the comic book by the same name and tells the story of a teenage superhero who has the power of super speed. “The Flash” was one of the big disappointments of the last year. It´s predictable, mind-numbing and has the disgusting aftertaste of cheap Hollywood-productions. People who like light entertainment without substance might like it.
Genre: Action, Adventure

From Dusk till Dawn
Is it me or did Robert Rodriguez lose his touch? But first things first: Like in the movie “From Dusk till Dawn” we follow the chronicles of the Gecko brothers who are wanted by the FBI. Heading for the Mexican border they lie low in a strip club that is populated by vampires that all must fight until dawn in order to survive. Unlike the movie the series chose very bad actors and the production looks cheap. And not cheap in a good way like an independent production. Just cheap. Robert Rodriguez should go back to his roots.
Genre: Action, Horror, Crime
