This week’s The Beauty Behind The Blog, Blogger Q & A is with Nicole, the gorgeous blogger behind Bagful of Notions.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your blog!
Hey, Nicole here from Bagful of Notions. Born and raised in Massachusetts (Diana Rossi, Mindy Kaling and Amy Poehler are my besties), yet deeply in love with the city of Melbourne, where I currently reside with my husband. While my attempts at being witty or charming may fall flat at times, my unwavering dedication at deciphering this crazy, chameleon-like makeup world rings true. My motto: “testing makeup-y things, so you don’t have to.”
When did you begin blogging and what inspired you to start?
A few months after appearing as a guest writer over at Makeup and Beauty Blog (yes, I absolutely had to name drop) I started Bagful of Notions in October 2011. Being a part of Karen’s blog, even for a nanosecond, gave me that boost of confidence I needed to start my own blog. As many of you know makeup is ridiculously overpriced in Australia (my primary inspiration/talking point), and the opening of Sephora in Sydney further punctuated this harsh reality. At the end of each of my reviews I always list the disparity in pricing; I feel it is super important to educate my readers prior to them hitting the makeup counters.
Favourite drugstore brand.
Can I declare a tie between Maybelline and Rimmel?
Your everyday skincare routine.
I bookend my day by washing and treating my skin, I swear it’s improved my skin’s health tenfold over the past six to eight months. I start by washing my face with either Aspect’s Gentle Clean Cleanser or Cosmedix Benefit Clean Gentle Cleanser – whichever is handy, really. After patting my face dry I gently apply Aspect’s Extreme B 17 Serum (morning only) and allow that to soak in while I floss, and brush my teeth. An eye cream is a must! I’ve been alternating between This Works’ Perfect Eyes Recovery Cream, and Nat.Face’s Agebloc Eye Gel, which is stowed in my gym kit. Finally, I cap my routine off with Ole Henriksen’s Nurture Me moisturiser (smells wicked good (Massachusetts speak for sweet as)), and Super Goop’s Skin Soothing Mineral Sunscreen.
Your celebrity crush.
Sarah Jessica Parker for her entrepreneurial drive, incessant curiosity, and thoughtful/intelligent dialog. Plus, she has the most amazing head of hair.
What takes up most of your time outside blogging?
To support my habit I work in construction by day as an Estimator for a Melbourne-based builder. My husband, Scott, and I are nuts about Melbourne’s food scene, so you can usually find us eating out, and enjoying a cocktail or three on the weekend. Exercise is a must, mainly to keep my hips in check.
