This week’s The Beauty Behind The Blog, Blogger Q & A is with Kats, the gorgeous blogger behind Kat’s Colourings.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your blog!
I’m a late bloomer in the beauty blogging world – only started last year at the grand old age of 58, and even my passion for beauty products (particularly colourful eye make-up) didn’t seriously begin until three years ago. But I’m making up for lost time, posting eight EOTD’s every month, and reviewing as many products as I can manage. I have a somewhat stressful full-time job in the IT industry, which doesn’t leave me anywhere near as much time for blogging as I’d like, so I do my best to make every post count…
Which 3 blogs should everyone be reading?
Well they’re already reading your gem, so excluding Tried & Tested, I can highly recommend…
The Beauty in Life for cut-to-the-chase honesty and a fun read.
More than Adored for just about anything beauty related, including amazingly useful blogger tips.
Sweetaholic Beauty for a rundown on the latest and greatest products to hit the beauty market place.
Your ‘Holy Grail’ beauty product.
Well this question and the next can be answered with the same thing – RapidLash Eyelash Enhancing Serum. No eyelash curler or mega mascara has made such a difference to my lashes as this extraordinary serum – my flutterers have darkened, thickened and grown at least half a centimetre, and given they were almost invisible stumpy little spikes before, I can’t rave about this magical product enough. I will never EVER be without it!
The oddest beauty product you’ve tried.
Same as above. I regard it as odd because never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I could paint something onto my lashes that would actually make them grow, and in such a short period of time. In all my travels in the beauty world, I’ve not come across anything so effective…
Your celebrity crush.
Without a doubt, it’s Sandra Bullock – she is constantly re-inventing herself, which is no mean feat at her age (50). She is endlessly game to try new hairstyles and makeup looks, and always manages to look nothing short of stunning. Of course she no doubt has help, but I’m inspired to keep experimenting with my own appearance. There’s an innocence and vulnerability about her too which is rare for someone in her industry, and she seems to have a big, big heart – I’d love her to be my bestie, although we’d probably spend all day watching soppy movies lol…
An interesting fact about yourself.
I’m a total nutter when it comes to anything even vaguely Egyptian (you can probably guess by my online name lol). I first studied the pyramids in history class in the first year of high school, and it’s been a lifelong fascination ever since. For whatever reason, I feel a very strong connection with the culture. Even at 13 years of age, I remember being incensed with rage when I read in National Geographic that the two Abu Simbel temples were cut up and moved because of potential flooding from the (then recently built) Aswan dam – although I understood that there was a need to manage the water supply, and both temples were relocated with the utmost of care (and at a cost of US$40 million), but at the time all I could think of was “How dare they touch this ancient and sacred site!”. Actually to this day it still upsets me that the alignment of the main temple, so precisely positioned to interact with the sun on two particular days of the year, has been interfered with…
