This winter the unique Amsterdam Light Festival returns to the city the third time. The historical center of Amsterdam will light up and present spectacular illuminated artworks for this international light and water festival. Amsterdam will be complemented by 30 light sculptures, projections and installations by contemporary national and international artists.
Visitors will be able to experience the festival from the water or by walking. The boat tour, Water Colors, will exhibit light installations along Amsterdam’s canals and the Amstel River, giving visitors an opportunity to get up close and personal will all the artworks. The walking route, Illuminade, will take place in the center of Amsterdam. Corresponding to the theme of this year’s festival, ‘A Bright City’, museums and institutions will organize light-related activities, introducing visitors to the modern light art. Art works will include projections on historical buildings, installations on the streets or in public parks, or interactive works requiring visitor participation. Visitors who want to get the best of the festival may reserve ‘specials’. These are packages, workshops or special routes arranged by the Amsterdam Light Festival or its partners. Please note that some arrangements are only in Dutch.
The Amsterdam Light Festival is the result of a joint venture between the cultural institutions, the municipality, knowledge institutes and businesses in Amsterdam. The festival was sponsored by many parties, including hotels, restaurants and crowd funding. The event involved many partners and volunteers of all kinds, which made a huge effort to make this festival happen and to reinforce the qualities of Amsterdam. The festival is also a strong source of promoting and demonstrating innovative light design, which is high-tech, SMART and interactive. Amsterdam Light Festival will make the inputs of LED revolution, which revolutionize the energy efficiency of lighting, visible and understandable for a wide audience.
Amsterdam Light Festival will take place from 27 November 2014 to 18 January 2015, in the darkest months of the year. The boat route, Water Colors, will be available from 27 November 2014 to 18 January 2015, and the walking route, Illuminade, from 11 December 2014 to 4 January 2015.
