The video certainly implies that each of us is complicit in our own destruction by virtue of our ignorance, apathy and cowardice. It likewise implies that we might evade our individual and national destruction if we could once again become educated, passionate for truth and right, and courageous.
All of that hyperbole is easily written, but so hard to actually achieve that it may take a miracle–a real, God-created miracle–for any of us to regain the personal worth and character that’s a prerequisite for reclaiming our liberty and gaining any real wealth. Those who believe the American dream includes two six-packs of beer each night, lots of TV and an occasional night out with the neighbor’s wife are self-destructive fools who deserve to be slaves. They’ve traded the American dream for the promise of a golden calf. Like the Hebrews who worshiped a golden calf as their god, modern Americans who’ve traded character for license will be made to pay a terrible price.
Real wealth isn’t in your bank’s vault. It’s in your character. It’s in your commitment to doing the right thing rather than the profitable thing. Those are easy words to write, but who really has sufficient character to pass up a free lunch or a liar’s loan?
We’re headed for an economic and political collapse–but not because we’ve run out of currency. We’re headed for catastrophe because, as a people, we’ve abandoned morality and become merrily amoral or even immoral. We’re headed for catastrophe because, if you try to bring up concepts like character or morality, most people gape at you as if you’re speaking in tongues.
I’m not convinced that most Americans can even comprehend concepts like morality and character. If they can’t, that’s why we’ll need a miracle–a genuine, God-granted miracle–to escape or even mitigate the trouble that’s headed our way.
America won’t collapse because we’re short on natural resources, jobs or industrial capacity. We’ll collapse because we’re short on morals.
