The 12 Most Underrated Games of 2014

Posted on the 22 December 2014 by Nrjperera @nrjperera

Watch Dogs, GTA 5, Far Cry 4 and many more AAA games were among the top releases of 2014. All these games were great, but sadly, their extreme internet hype overshadowed some other awesome releases of the year. So, in honor of those games, I made this list of under-appreciated games to help keep you warm during the winter holidays.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel

Gamers complained about its gimmicks and tagged it as a clone of the previous games. But, if you liked Borderlands 1 and 2, there’s no reason to hate this game.

Thief (Reboot)

The reboot of the popular first-person stealth video game disappointed many modern gamers, but loved by its hard-core fans. This game deserves better ratings for its story-driven single player campaign.

Wolfenstein: New Order

Bethesda’s new FPS was among most-criticized games of the year. But the combat and the narrative of this game was so great, it will get you addicted to the impresive sci-fi gameplay.

The Evil Within

Shinji Mikami’s latest horror received a mix of positive and negative reviews. Although, only fans of his early works understood the real enjoyment behind this game. If you can handle terrifying gameplay, this one is a must-play.

This game managed to build up massive hype among fans of Alien film series, and failed to live up to the expectations. However, the game was actually more than enjoyable.

Elder Scrolls: Online

Elder-scrolls-Online

The most-anticipated MMO of the year took a quick turn down south after its initial release. It may not be as good as the past Elder Scrolls games, but if you love MMO’s the Elder Scrolls Online will be a great change of pace.

Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare

It was nothing like its predecessor, but this third-person shooter/ tower defense game was probably one of the coolest games that nobody bothered to even give it a try.

Rambo: The Video Game

I admit, this game had some horrible graphics that reminded me of 2005 and if you head over to its Steam page you will find plenty of reasons to hate the game. Main reason for that is most gamers thought this game was a FPS, but it’s actually a rail shooter. If you’re into that kind of stuff, this game can be fun.

Lords of the Fallen

The most underrated role-playing game of the year? Yes, exactly.

Civilization: Beyond Earth

Even though the $50 price tag seems a little too much, Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth is a great sci-fi strategy game.

Driveclub

Network issues and a few small bugs made the launch of Driveclub a disaster, but the game itself was actually pretty awesome. Sony rolled out the DriveClub 1.09 update with fixes addressing some of its major issues, so the game should be good to play now.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2

Konami’s sequel to the 2010 game didn’t receive the press coverage it deserves, even though it was a must-play for action-adventure fans.

Have any games you’d like to add to the list? Let me know in the comments.
