That’s Damn Rock and Roll: Eric Church at Boots & Hearts 2015!

By Phjoshua @thereviewsarein

Eric Church doesn’t give one single damn, he told us so himself when he was up on the main stage at Boots & Hearts on Saturday night. And it showed.

This is a dude who plays his own brand of country rock, a throw back to the days of Merle and Johnny and the rest of the outlaws, and he doesn’t care if you think he’s trendy or hot or anything other than a man who gets up on stage and plays music.

Saturday night in the headliner slot Church did that, with a 19 song set and very little banter other than asking how people were doing and pumping fists between songs.

The crowd was the biggest we’ve seen so far at Boots & Hearts… ever. There had to have been more than 35,000 in the audience, stretching deep out onto the lawn and loving every second of the 105 minute performance. And we were right about 1 thing, there were definitely some smoke clouds rising into the night sky as Eric Church sang.

Note: Eric Church is an underrated guitar player. I had no idea that he could play his electric as well as he did, and his acoustic with such a sweet sound.

Church was also a gracious entertainer. Signalling to the crowd whenever they sang for him, signing a checkered flag during Talladega, and collecting and signing cowboy boots during These Boots. More than once he clapped, bowed, yelled in celebration and looked like a happy, happy man.

The only, only thing I’m bummed out about is Like Jesus Does didn’t make the set list. That’s it.

He’s an intense dude, and it was an intense show. But my God I loved it and we’ll be back to see Mr. Church again.

Check out the set list, more pictures, and be ready for more Boots & Hearts coverage coming soon!
