Tennis, Films, and Fashion!

HOLLYWOOD—Celebrities are just like us. They attend the U.S. Open, film premieres and love runway fashion. The celebrities that attended the U.S. Open on September 12 included mommy-to-be Beyoncé and hubby Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Anna Wintour and Paul Simon, just to name a few. Three years ago, Rafa Nadal dethroned Roger Deferer at Wimbledon. The unforgettable game went on for almost five hours. It was just like the U.S. Open finals between Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic. Anyone who watched the final that was also over fours hours of unbelievable tennis felt the drama, intensity and emotional roller coaster ride to the end. The pressure was on for both champions. Nadal, who won the U.S. Open last year, wanted to win again. And Djokovic wanted to win his third Grand Slam title of 2011 with a four-set win over Nadal, marking his historic tennis year. Novak is now the king of tennis. What is open for debate is this, why was a medical timeout called when Nadal was ready to serve? Another thing open for debate is why was he allowed to take painkillers while playing the fourth set?

Djokovic was hurting, but so was Nadal. Amazing how Djokovic quickly recovered after taking the two painkillers and fell to the ground on his back when he won. Then the very next day on Sept. 13, he made the rounds by going on “Regis and Kelly,” where he danced and made it to the Empire State building in New York City for more pictures. Apparently, Djokovic had a miraculous back recovery. Nadal was fitter than Djokovic after the third set, but was lacking the luck of Novak. Nadal had an air of sadness when he was dethroned.

The other surprise of the U.S. Open was the loss of Serena Williams in the Women’s final to Samantha Stosur. The outburst of Serena Williams against the chair umpire cost her $2,000, a drop in the bucket for her. Williams, as the runner-up, earned $900,000, with an additional bonus money of $500,000. If she had won, it would have been $1 million. She was spotted dancing up a storm at SL with her entourage in New York City and could care less about the controversy.

Another controversy is the royal film Madonna directed, which bowed at the Toronto Film Festival on Sept 12. The film was first premiered at the Venice Film Festival two weeks ago. The film, which is titled “W.E..” for Wallis and Edward, Duke and Duchess of Windsor, is getting mixed reviews. The release of the film is scheduled for December 9. The film has interesting costumes - mostly vintage retro. We expected that from Madonna, who is always concerned with clothes, makeup, luxury and fashion.

Fashion is what brought Kirstie Alley cross-country from L.A. to New York City on September 12. Kirstie was in New York City for Fashion Week 2012, where she walked the runway at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week for Zang Toi at Lincoln Center on September 13. She wore a blue full-length gown with sequins and a blue jacket, with black and blue open toe high heel shoes. Her hair was pulled back in a updo with long-dangling earrings. Celebrities from Kim Kardashian to Nicki Minaj have flocked to Fashion Week 2012 to see the eye-catching fashion looks of Zac Posen, Carolina Herrera, Marc Jocobs and many more designers.

Rose’s Scoop: J Lo, who recently split with Marc Anthony, was spotted dining in NYC with Bradley Cooper on the rebound from Renée Zellweger. Finally, congratulations to Miss Angola, who won Miss Universe.
