Teaser Tuesdays: The Glass Palace

Posted on the 31 July 2018 by Cheekymeeky

I love a good historical fiction. And one that spans multiple generations and multiple countries, even better. The Glass Palace is also a book that's giving me #travelgoals with its lovely cover and beautiful lush descriptions of Mandalay. Will present-day Myanmar have the same enchantment as the olden days Burma? I don't know. What I know is that the very first sentence of the book hooked me, and I am just relishing this combination of fast-paced story, and moody descriptions.

Teaser Tuesdays: The Glass Palace

There was only one person in the food-stall who knew exactly what that sound was that was rolling in across the plain, along the silver curve of the Irrawaddy, to the western wall of Mandalay's fort. His name was Rajkumar and he was an Indian, a boy of eleven - not an authority to be relied upon.

~ The Glass Palace by Amitav Ghosh

This is actually the second book based in Myanmar that I have read this year. The earlier one being Saving Fish From Drowning. And before this, I don't think I have ever read a book on Myanmar/Burma.

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by Ambrosia at The Purple Booker. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

Teaser Tuesdays: The Glass Palace
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn't give too much away! You don't want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
