Not surprisingly, the revival and reinvention of psych rock in the last several years has taken a very firm hold on our collective musical consciousness. While the overall result has been one of rebirth and face-melting goodness, we’ve also had to weed through mildly distorted guitars that only mimic those on top (and poorly). Floating above this din of psychedelia is Talk in Tongues, set apart from the rising tide of mediocre by their clever riffs and melodies. Like “While Everyone Was Waiting” above, the rest of their album is much the same — the band isn’t reinventing the sound, but their work within this sonic range is impressive and absolutely worth multiple listens.
