Take a Hike

By Lisaorchard @lisaorchard1

Hello everyone, I hope all is well with you. I’m back today after a week of work, writing, and running. My newest project is going well so far, and I’m excited about it. I love this time of year. It’s fall, the leaves are turning, and it’s still warm outside. This is the perfect time to hike. I love hiking. It’s one of my favorite things to do.

I know you’ve heard me say it before, but I’m going to say it again. Hiking is good for you too. It’s not only a stress reliever, but it’s good for your physical health. We have become the inside generation. We work inside. We even exercise inside. I’m guilty of this as well.

But slowing down and getting out into nature is so good for us. We need to return to nature and reconnect with ourselves. I’ve been reading quite a bit about our connection with the earth. Did you know that when you’re in the woods, the trees release phytoncides. These chemicals boost our immune system.

If you can’t make it to the hiking trails then walk around your neighborhood. Just getting outside into the fresh air will do you good. Walking is a great way to lower your blood pressure and reduce cholesterol. It improves heart function and blood flow.

Not only is hiking good for our physical health, but it’s also good for our mental health as well. It’s a great stress reliever. It gives you an opportunity to unplug and unwind. While you’re walking, you can soak up Vitamin D which helps fight depression and anxiety. So, make walking or hiking a weekly habit and see how your health and mood improve. How about you? Do you walk or hike? Have you made it a habit? How has the activity improved your life? Leave a comment! I’d love to hear from you!
