Sweet Pongal Recipe

By Hemapriya Natesan @MyLittleMoppet

Pongal is a popular dish that is cooked specially during the south Indian festival of the same name. It's a rice dish and mildly spiced, and also has a sweet version - sweet Pongal! Although sweet, sweet Pongal is much too healthy to qualify as dessert! Besides rice, it also has moong dal and ghee, healthy ingredients for growing kids, making it a perfect option this Dussehra!

Sweet Pongal Recipe

Ingredients :

  • 1 cup Rice
  • ½ cup moong dal
  • Jaggery syrup to taste
  • Ghee - 3 teaspoon.
  • Elachi powder - ½ teaspoon

Method :

1. Wash and soak the rice and dal for 20 minutes.

2. In a cooker, add the rice and dal with 5 cups of water and cook on a medium flame for 4-5 whistles.

3. After the steam is released, add the jaggery syrup. Ensure it is smooth and without lumps.

4. Add the ghee and mix well. Garnish it with elaichi powder.

Unbelievably easy, isn't it? If you're worried about feeding your baby jaggery, do check out our post here. The elaichi adds a nice flavor, so don't skip it!! This is also a great pseudo-dessert for picky kids; they don't know that it has nutritional benefit as well!
