Last week we had beautiful, crisp breezy weather in New York. Today, it is going to reach 90 degrees. Transitional weather can be so unpredictable and in some parts of the country, it will be months before fall weather truly arrives, if at all. While some people find transitional fashion frustrating and confusing, I always enjoy it. I like layering, I like pairing summer pieces with fall ones and I would much rather thes freedom of these looks over bundling up in coats, hats, and scarves.
Sweaters and Sandals: Looks that will Ease You into Fall
One idea for a transitional look is to pair sweaters and sandals. If you are someone who deals with cold feet, I’ll let you off here, but for those who prefer a little warmth with a summer look, pairing sweaters and sandals can be the perfect outfit idea. You’ll be able to extend the wear of your sandals while being warm enough warmth for crisp days. Check out the five outfit ideas below.
Outfit #1
What I love about this time of year are the colors. All these rich vibrant shades that all work so beautifully together. I took inspiration from that when I created this look. I styled a classic and basic sweater in burgundy and high waist straight jeans from AG. I added these yellow sandals from Sam Edelman and finished the look with a plaid scarf from Banana Republic and teal bag from Urban Originals.
Outfit #2
This next outfit is great for work or a dressier weekend look and pairs black with shades of cognac, a combination I really love for its richness. I styled this Madewell sweater with a pair of tattersall kick flare cropped pants. I added these block heel sandals from Chinese Laundry, black bag from Cos and tassel earrings from Madewell.
Outfit #3
Transition is a great time to keep wide-leg cropped pants in rotation. In this look, I styled this ivory sweater from Everlane with a pair of navy pants from Sea and added a pop of color with these red slide sandals from Seychelles. I finished the outfit with a navy bag from Ted Baker and Acetate hoop earrings that pick up the colors of the look.
Outfit #4
Sweaters and sandals looks aren’t limited to pullovers. You can create fantastic transitional layering outfits using a cardigan. I styled this olive green style from Cos over a rusty striped t-shirt and added a pair of relaxed boyfriend jeans from Everlane. The color of these sandals from Naot work perfectly with the look and the paisley scarf pulls in all the shades. One easy trick when combining patterns is to pair one rounder or softer print with a geometric, like how I did here. Lastly, I added this olive handbag from Rebecca Minkoff.
Outfit #5
In this last outfit, I styled this spice colored sweater with a pair of khaki pants from J. Crew and added the cognac comfort sandals from Vionic. I finished the outfit with a tan bag from Everlane and printed scarf from Nordstrom.
As the weather gets cooler where you live, you can continue your sweater and sandals looks simply by changing the shoes to warmer ones making the ultimate transitional outfits.
