Surviving Music Festivals

By Paolabuitrago @PaolaKassa

I went to a music festival last weekend, and although I had an amazing time, I don't think I will ever do it again. Honestly! The idea of going to a music festival sounds perfect. Seeing your favorite bands, dancing, wearing a sweet outfit- it all sounds wonderful. But the reality (at least for me), was being hot in the sun, and super tired. I definitely loved it, and the bands were great! BUT it's something I only needed to experience once. So, here are my 5 tips to surviving music festivals.

1. Know what to Wear

You don't want your clothes to stick to you. Even if it isn't hot outside, you will be surrounded by people all day, and you'll most likely get tired of your outfit clinging to your body. (There will be sweat, just so you know.) I recommend a dress or romper! The fabric will be loose to keep you cool, and you will look cool too. Wear comfortable shoes as well. I know you want to look good, but I promise you will be much happier in your combat boots than in your high heels. Leave those at home.

2. Take care of Yourself

Wear sunscreen! Your skin will be pretty exposed if you're an adventurous dresser, so you want to keep it healthy! A first day burn is not going to feel good in the days after. Also, make sure you stay hydrated. Drinking water will ALWAYS help you. Trust me.

3. Bring the Necessities

Bring a backpack with everything you may need. This includes a blanket, money, ID, water, Advil, sunglasses, you know- the works. Don't be underprepared!

4. Don't get your Hopes Up

It will be difficult to see every second of every band in the lineup. Enjoy yourself! You don't want to stress out about being front row for everyone. Festivals are crowded, and there are many, many, other fans of the same bands. Go with the flow! Sometimes the best view is in the back, and that's ok.

5. Have a Game Plan

Know who you want to see, and what time they are going onstage. That way you can plan ahead and remember to eat, sit down, and take a chill break. Also, this will help you have time to check out all the other exciting things the festival has to offer!

I hope these tips help you for your next Music Festival. Remember, the most important part is to have fun!
