2 amazing days, 7 photographers and me at Northcote House near Sunningdale. This was my first full course that I personally delivered. I opened up my business to 7 photographers from all over the country and at all levels of experience. Day 1 we covered. How to get new clients, workflow, Websites and SEO, branding and anything else that arose. Day 2 was about the shooting of a wedding and editing through to album design. It was such a packed couples of days. My voice just about held out!
Here are a few images taken during the shooting session yesterday and a few images of how us taking the images. I will post delegates images soon but the ones below are all taken by me. For once, there is a bit of geeky information about the shots as well. For more information about my photography course, click HERE
Naturally lit image of Johny. I sat him on the ground to give a more relaxed angle. By having the tie open, it gives the impression of being before the wedding and building the story of the day. Canon 5D Mark 3 – f2.8 1/320 Auto WB ISO 1600 Canon 70-200 2.8 IS at 70mm Aperture Priority at -2/3 stop
I love reflection! This is only a couple of feet from the first image but has a different feel. The reflection is a framed painting rather than a mirror. I am always looking for shiny surfaces. Canon 5D Mark 3 – f4 1/250 Auto WB ISO 2500 Canon 17-40 F4 at 26mm
This is using one of my best investments in the past year. A £15 LED video light from EBay! Shot in Aperture priority with a ‘human stand’ holding the video light. Canon 5D Mark 3 – f2.8 1/250 Auto WB ISO 1600 Canon 50mm 1.2 at 50mm Aperture Priority at -2/3 stop
Claire & Johny were a fantastic couple to photograph. I shot their real wedding a couple of years ago and now Claire works with us! This is my ‘dirty dancing ‘ pose. Canon 5D Mark 3 – f2.8 1/320 Auto WB ISO 640 Canon 50mm 1.2 at 50mm Aperture Priority at -1/3 stop large window on camera left gave fantastic light with the curtains half closed.
Same setting as above. They can never stay moody for long!
Another reflection shot. I turned Johny around so we could see Claires face in the reflection. Canon 5D Mark 3 – f2.8 1/250 Auto WB ISO 500 Canon 50mm 1.2 at 50mm Aperture Priority at -1 stop
If you have seen my appearance on the One Show, you will have seen me close the curtains to get a flattering strip of light. I moved them around until Claires dress caught the light. Canon 5D Mark 3 – f4 1/250 Auto WB ISO 250 Canon 17 – 40 F4 at 19mm Aperture Priority at -2 stops
The scene in the room while I took the image above.
I always try to both give brides something natural to do while including elements from the day. By capturing Claire putting her earrings on, I think is a nice way to show them in situ. Canon 5D Mark 3 – f2.8 1/250 Auto WB ISO 100 Canon 50mm 1.2 at 50mm Aperture Priority at -2 stops
Claire and Helen got a fit of the giggles while doing the make up shot. Canon 5D Mark 3 – f2.8 1/250 Auto WB ISO 250 Canon 50mm 1.2 at 50mm Aperture Priority at -2/3 stop
Out on the steps of Northcote House. I always try to layer my images to give a bit more of a story. Canon 5D Mark 3 – f2.8 1/250 Auto WB ISO 3200 Canon 24mm at 24mm Aperture Priority at -1 stop
Everyone trying to get the shots from above
I love to mix tungsten and natural light. We opened up the huge doors to allow a large soft light to come in from camera left. Canon 5D Mark 3 – f2.8 1/320 Auto WB ISO 500 Canon 24mm 1.4 at 24mm Aperture Priority at -1 stop
I got very used to working in the wet weather last summer. I got quite muddy lying on the ground to get the right angle. Canon 5D Mark 3 – f2.8 1/2500 Auto WB ISO 100 Canon 24mm 1.4mm Aperture Priority at -1 stop
This is the set up for the image above
There are lots of nice grounds at Northcote House. I wanted to show that no matter where you are, its possible to get nice / different images on a wedding day.
This is the shot I took from the set up above. Canon 5D Mark 3 – f2.8 1/800 Auto WB ISO 100 Canon 50mm 1.2 at 50mm Aperture Priority at -2/3 stop
I always try to get a ‘stolen moment’ for the bride and groom. Letting them have a few moments alone to be together while I capture a few shots from a distance. Canon 5D Mark 3 – f2.8 1/250 Auto WB ISO 200 Canon 50mm 1.2 at 50mm Aperture Priority at -1 stop
Not such a private moment for them!
Thank you to everyone that attended the course, Claire and Johny for being great and staying all day. Special thanks to my better half Helen who helped so much in the planning and throughout the course!
