Superwoman Syndrome

“The truth will set you free, but first it will piss you off.” - Gloria Steinem
I do not endorse the "Superwoman" phenomenon any more. I will admit, I have used that word myself to complement other women, but only recently I have realized the weight of that word. Superwoman is all well-and-good in the super-hero world, but in real life no one is a superwoman. Every woman I know is having to make a choice, and not all their choices are their first preference. There is pain, sweat and blood involved in all their achievements.

No one realizes that how calling someone 'superwoman' automatically puts a pressure of them to continue to perform in the same way for rest of their future. That's a recipe for disaster. No two days are alike. No one can live up to that title every single day of their lives. You might not see the bad days, but they sure are there. Some people are just better at hiding their struggles, while others might choose to only show one side of their lives. And both are acceptable behaviors as the goal is always to do what is best for you.  Also, who said doing more makes you better? Shouldn't the barometer be doing what matters? Doing things in the most efficient way possible versus doing it all and pretending to 'have it under control'? I pledge to not use the word 'superwoman' any more. I will find others ways to compliment women (how's badass for one?)
