Well hello there one and all, and welcome to another edition of my Sunday Utterings: the blog post in which I share random bits of my life with you in no particular order and for no particular reason. Oh I do like these posts. Shall we begin?
A New Toy
Today, as I sit on my sofa with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers alternately bickering and dancing in the background, I’m tapping away on a new 13″ sleek, silver box that I both fear and admire in equal measure. Yep, I am finally the owner of a Macbook Pro, and I LOVE it.
Now I’m not going to lie, I don’t really know what I’m doing… yet. I haven’t transferred any documents or pictures over from my old laptop, I don’t have any software like Microsoft Office or Apple’s own iWork, and as I wanted to ‘start again’ with the music side of things, I’ve created a brand new Apple id for myself and therefore have a completely empty iTunes library. I’m basically currently using my laptop as a glorified iPhone or iPad. But I’m keen to become an experienced and knowledgeable Macbook user, and have gone and got a book out from the library and everything. ’Switching to the Mac: The Missing Manual’ is going to teach me everything I don’t know. (And fast, because it’s got to go back in a fortnight.)
In the meantime, I have some questions that I’d love answered by other Macbook users if you’d care to share. Questions such as…
- Do I need Microsoft Office or will Apple’s Pages and Numbers programmes suffice? For the blog and the business I will need to write basic Word-like documents and create simple spreadsheets, so if the Apple alternatives will do I’m happy to use them (erm- they’re a lot cheaper!), or do they just not compare?
- What about other apps and programmes? If I want to start to improve my blogging from a design and photographic point of view, is Aperture a good start?
- If you were to give me one key piece of advice about my Macbook Pro, what would it be?
- And most importantly of all, where the hell do I get a stylish laptop case from??
Hair Today, Gone With Some Simple Solution
I should probably be doing this as Operation Get Good Hair Part 4 (to follow parts 1, 2 and 3), but I thought I’d sneak it in to my Sunday Utterings instead as I want to keep it short and sweet. I went for a hair trial last weekend with the very lovely Cassandra Rizzuto. Not only does this lady have a very cool name, but she also happens to be pretty good with hair, and I’m thrilled that she’s going to be doing mine and my bridesmaids’ for the wedding.
Now as regular readers know, I have very fine hair (code for not a lot!) and lust after full, luscious locks. I want to wear my hair down and wavy on my wedding day with a flower garland passed down from my Mum, and was planning on using a combination of temporary hair extensions and hair fibres to give the illusion of volume.
We-he-he-hell, let me tell you that I feel ENTIRELY in safe hands with Cassandra. At the hair trial she clipped in some hair around the bottom of my head and then GLUED in some pieces at the top. Yes folks, GLUED. Why am I getting excited about this? Because I know that extensions are not good for your hair if worn regularly or for long periods of time, BUT… the flowing locks that were attached to my head WITH GLUE were out again within 25 minutes thanks to some sort of solution which not only de-glued the glue, but left no damage to my own hair whatsoever. This, ladies and gentlemen, was a hair revelation.

…Et voila!
They will get snipped on the day- I want my hair to look natural after all- but even though I’m wearing my hair pretty much exactly the same as I do on a day to day basis, it still feels special and fabulous because, lo and behold, I actually have a full head of hair. Or as I kept saying to Cass as I swished around in front of the mirror, “I look like Cheryl Cole!”. (Listen, a girl can dream, ok??)
Aaaaand… It’s Christmas
I have to admit I’ve been a bit bah humbug this year. It seems to have come around way too quickly, and I managed to put off buying presents for as long as I possibly could due to severe lack of funds. However, on Friday I put on my war paint and blitzed Bluewater before spending a lovely evening on my own decorating the tree and making the house Christmassey… and as I sit here with Nigella on in the background and fairy lights and candles twinkling all around me, I can happily say it really is a lovely time of year.
Not to mention the fact that I only have four work days left before I have a whole 11 DAYS OFF. Festive whoops all round!

Well I think that’s all I have to share just now. My December to-do list is still only half ticked off and I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed by how much I still have left to do for the wedding… but hey, I think it’s also important to relax and enjoy over the Christmas period and hit January with a gusto!
