Sunday Sesh @ The Left Bank

By Foodie Cravings @foodiecravings

I love that there’s so many Perth bars and pubs to go to, my writer Ros has been drinking her way through Perth – her latest visit was The Left Bank for the re launch of their Sunday Session, read on for what she thought.

The Left Bank is the ideal place to head to if you’re looking to enjoy the sizzling summer weather in Perth. With million dollar views right before your eyes, where better to enjoy the cooling Fremantle Dr. and absorb the tranquility of the magnificent Swan River?

The Left Bank evokes so many memories for me. Memories of socialising with friends, trying to fit every last hour, every last minute into the dissolving weekend.

As my friend and I took residence at a high table overlooking the shimmering blue water, we laughed about all of the good times we had here while enjoying the crisp apple taste of a Thatcher’s cider ($12 a jug).

Although a full restaurant menu exists, a Sunday sesh menu is offered from 3-5pm where food ideal for sharing is available. Sliders, pizzas, chips and jugs of drink make it an easy option when you’re dining in a group. What we samples is featured below.

Chilli cheese beef fries ($8)

Think of a bowl full of chips, smothered with chilli con carne and cheese melted on top and you have your ideal bowl of potato-fried goodness. This was a little messy to eat, but a delicious combination with just the right amount of kick with the chilli. Very moreish and we easily polished off the bowl.

Pizza Margarita – tomato, mozzarella and fresh basil ($7)

This classic Italian pizza is a favorite of mine and The Left Bank’s version is perfect. It’s fresh and simple and comes out on a crispy thin base with a light sprinkling of cheese on top. Bellissimo.

Pizza Spanish – prawns, chorizo, romesco and olives ($7) & Pulled pork sliders ($3 each)

I really enjoyed this pizza and happily devoured several slices. The combination of toppings worked well together and the prawns were thick and juicy. A real winner.

Who doesn’t love pulled pork? And food that’s sample size always tastes better and leaves you wanting more. Slow cooked, mouth-watering sliders were the ideal snack filler on Sunday.   Soft, white bread; juicy, tender pork topped with crunchy, tangy coleslaw; you’ve got heaven in a bun right there.

Now onto the ideal summer drinks and who can resist a cocktail when the weather is heating up? On offer at The Left Bank were:

Mojitos

This refreshing glass of deliciousness was the right mix of white rum, sugar, lime juice, soda and mint. It went down far too easily and the combination of sweetness, refreshing citrus and mint complemented the potent kick of the rum.

Pimms

This drink is a personal favorite of mine. A jug of Pimms takes me back to living in England and first experiencing a glass of this fruity delightfulness. It’s oh so pretty and tastes even better with the right ingredients.  It’s festively filled with orange, strawberries and slices of cucumber. It really is the taste of summer.

As well as offering a newly furnished beer garden, complete with TV screens, there is a mezzanine, upstairs River Bar and indoor area. The Left Bank offers dining from 7am until late at night so there’s ample opportunity to make the most of their glorious views. The pub style menu offers a range of foods suitable for sharing or a la carte.

A bit about Ros Buckley (@hungerpangs_00)

I love socialising and eating so if I can combine the two, it’s a match made in heaven. Always like to try somewhere new but can’t beat eating Vietnamese or Japanese food at a local haunt. I’m excited to explore more of what Perth has to offer and will base my reviews on food, service and the atmosphere of a restaurant.
