Happy Sunday! It may be very sunny outside, but I don’t think we will even break zero degrees today. That sounds like a perfect reason to stay inside, doesn’t it?
Jim left last Sunday for his second business trip of the year. Less than an hour after he left, I got hit with the tell-tale signs of sickness – sore throat, stuffiness. By the time I was almost done with dinner, I ached so badly I could barely stand. So I didn’t. I went to bed and stayed in bed for the next thirty-six hours. It was the muscle and joint pain that did me in this time. It was pretty unbearable. Thanks to forced rest and friends who were gracious enough to pick up and drop off Holly to and from dance for me, I was able to get a lot of sleep and woke up Tuesday morning feeling much better. I still had the cold, but at least I could move without feeling like I had been run over by an offensive line. Of course, the next step was to lose my voice. Today is day four of no voice. The kids love it. I am thoroughly tired of not feeling well. Thankfully, Jim came home this morning, so I do plan to try to rest as much as possible.
Holly’s tryouts went extremely well. This year’s ballet is an adaptation of Mary Poppins, and Holly will be one of the Banks children. She is ecstatic, especially since the young ladies playing Mary and Bert are her two favorite dancers at the studio. They are seniors, so it means a lot to her that she will have so much time on stage with them. We have all been excited about this for months, and it is going to be a great show!
With me on single parent duty while suffering from a nasty cold, it was a quiet week. I still managed to post my weekly reading summary and my What’s For Dinner feature. I also shared my thoughts on The Lady of Misrule and the amazing The Library at Mount Char. Plus, I unveiled a new feature in which I share some of my secrets for managing my crazy life; Getting Shit Done: Planning Part I was all about how I keep everyone’s schedules organized electronically.
This week was a particularly rough week for celebrity deaths. I was stunned by the news of David Bowie’s passing on Monday; I so admired his artistry, his talent, his ability to experiment with sound that his death was something of a blow. Then Thursday’s news about Alan Rickman burst forth, and the amount of grief I felt was shocking and surprising. I always thought of him as the creepy Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Then, he burst onto the scene as Professor Snape. More than any other actor in that series, he became Snape and in turn created one of the most memorable characters you will ever see on screen. He was so good at that. Die Hard, Love Actually, Sense and Sensibility, Galaxy Quest, and so, so many more – he had a penchant of taking roles that tended to steal the spotlight. He will be sorely missed.
