I sort of unexpectedly fell off the Interwebz this week. I was not planning to do so, but when life is crazy and something has to give, it makes sense that the Interwebz is the thing to give. This year is always tough for everyone given holiday preparations and celebrations and the like. For Jim and me, it also means year-end inventories, audit preparations, budget finalization, and all of the things that are necessary to get companies up and running when the calendar flips to a new year. Add on top of that holiday concerts, holiday prep and celebrations, and you have a month that is about as awful as you can get.
What made this week so particularly bad is that Jim was gone for the entire week for one of his year-end inventory counts. In the meantime, I stayed back to handle the normal day-to-day parenting activities and had to deal with my own budgets and audit prep work on top of that. This time of year always puts me in a funk as well, so it was just a rough week mentally and emotionally. The end result is that I had no desire to write or read or even to check in on social media all that often.
I would like to think this week would be a bit better. After all, Jim is home again. However, we have two holiday concerts, Jim’s holiday party, a holiday luncheon for me, budgets that are still not finalized, a quarterly meeting with the owner of my company, and all of the normal evening and weekend activities. The saying is that there is no rest for the weary. I can honestly speak to the validity of that statement.
There are bright spots in all of this. My friends have been propping me up with texts and tweets. Jim and I have tickets to see a certain movie at 10 PM on Thursday. The holiday party is always fun and a great night out for the two of us. If all else, I still have my gorgeous library and house. Coming home and relishing its quiet comfort makes everything worth it.
What little I did manage to write this week included my weekly reading summary and a review of Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. I guess if I could only write one review, it was for that book. Seriously, everyone, you need to read it immediately. I finished my e-galley and immediately preordered a hard copy of the book to keep and share with my family. Of course, they have yet to read it, but I will keep working on them. It is that good.
