Sunday Devotional: Love the Truth

By Eowyn @DrEowyn

John 17:15-19
The Prayer of Jesus to the Father

“I do not ask that you take them out of the world
but that you keep them from the Evil One.
They do not belong to the world
any more than I belong to the world.
Consecrate them in the truth.
Your word is truth.
As you sent me into the world,
so I sent them into the world.
And I consecrate myself for them,
so that they also may be consecrated in truth.”

Jesus prays in Garden of Gethsemane

Again and again, the Holy Scriptures warn us that sin and a heart hardened against God result in the opposite of truth — that of lies, deception, and a terrible spiritual blindness.

“…you are living among a rebellious people. They have eyes to see but do not see and ears to hear but do not hear, for they are a rebellious people.” -Ezekiel 12:2

“In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers.” -2 Corinthians 4:4

“But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come. For men will be lovers of themselves . . . Evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.” -2 Timothy 3:1-2, 13

The result of spiritual blindness is all around us: An upside-down America where evil is called good, and good is called evil; where darkness is called light, and light is called darkness; and where bitter is called sweet, “and sweet for bitter!” (Isaiah 5:20)

There is a reason why an upside-down flag signifies America in distress:

So, seek and love what is true with a pure heart.

The truth is never wrong, because He is the Truth, and the Truth is Him.

I am the way

The Greatest Commandment of all is to love God with our whole heart, our whole soul, our whole mind, and with all our strength.

May “your love . . . increase ever more and more in knowledge and every kind of perception, to discern what is of value” (Philippians 1:9-10), and may the joy and peace and love of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you!
