Or rather I should say a long summer solstice weekend to remember!
It is Sunday night as I write this and as I look back over the rest of the weekend that's just gone past I couldn't help but say how fabulous it was. It felt like we've just been on holiday!
Thursday night we went to the Grow London garden fair and had some green (and not so green) fix and came home with three beautiful plants.
Gaz couldn't resist a tall specimen of Illicium majus.
Friday we had planned to go out again but decided at the last minute to just stay home, relax and recover from the working week, and do loads of gardening. The sun was shining and it felt so warm that it was so conducive to be laid back and do light pottering in the garden (which we did).
Saturday, had a pleasant surprise in the morning when we opened the latest issue of Koi Carp Magazine that had arrived by the post, to find that our pond is on a full page feature (thank you guys!).
Now Saturday is the actual Summer Solstice day and how perfect it was that the actual day fell on Saturday and that the weather was fantastic too, sunny and warm and felt so....summery! Is that so unusual? Yes!
For one thing summer solstice falling on a weekend is an irregular thing on its own, let alone with the weather feeling summery at the same time too. In previous years the day itself can be such a washout that I don't realize that it's gone past till a few days after.
Anyway, while the day was young we decided to head down to London and spent most of the day and early evening there,joining the crowds celebrating the gorgeous day and weather.
Sunday was just as beautiful weather wise and much like Friday we spent most of the day pottering.
Which was perfect!
In the winter I spend a lot of time dreaming of summer and warmer months ahead. And when summer comes it's easy to get caught up with so many concerns and activities that you forget to just relish the season. And then before you know it autumn has arrived, then winter...
But this weekend we certainly relished the warm weather.
Ahh summer, beautiful summer!
