Summer Essentials

summer essentials
Happy Monday everyone!! Four more days of work and back on holidays woo hoo! Ever since I got back from the US, the weather has been pretty cold. Even winter in LA is warmer than our summer. Although, I am complaining about our cold weather, I still prefer it over really hot days like this Thursday (expected high of 40 degrees). So I thought I would talk about some of the summer essentials products or things that I’ll be using this summer.

Moisturiser with SPF

During summer, I always look for a moisturiser with SPF in it. That way you know you are protected even if you forget to use sunscreen when you go out. The Ultraceuticals Ultra Protective Daily Moisturiser* is a lightweight and non greasy moisturiser that keeps my face hydrated and moisturised. A pump of the moisturiser is usually enough to cover my entire face. My face has been quite dry lately and the Ultraceuticals Ultra Protective Daily Moisturiser has been doing a pretty good job at keeping it hydrated.

Hair removal

Summer = shorts or skirts = need to shave/wax. I remember back in high school when I first started waxing, I would drip wax everywhere and burned myself when I accidentally over heated the wax. It was one BIG mess, I tell ya. I eventually stopped waxing because it was too much of a hassle and moved onto other forms of hair removal. Recently, I was given a chance to try out the Veet easywax roll on*. This baby is sooo easy to use and no more mess! I was kinda scared of rolling the hot wax onto my legs but to my surprise, the temperature was just right. Not too hot to burn my skin but hot enough to melt the wax. The wax application was very easy and applies an even layer every time. If you love waxing, then you got to try this out.

Sunscreen
This should be no surprise. If you’re an outdoorsy person, this is particularly important to you. Sunscreen should be always worn, whether you are going out for 5 mins or 5 hours. Sun exposure causes sunburn, premature skin aging (wrinkles!!) and skin cancer. Make sure you apply sunscreen 30 mins before heading out, this will help your skin absorb the sunscreen. The Neutrogena Beach Defence* sunscreen makes applying so easy by just spraying on. The best thing I love about this sunscreen (apart from protecting me from the sun) is the scent! It smells so deliciously good.

Water
Hydration in summer is very important. I always drink heaps of water to prevent dehydration plus there are no calories. Before I leave the house, I always put a bottle of water into my bag. Two reasons for doing that: 1. I’m stingy, water is expensive in Australia and 2. I’m more likely to drink more water when it’s in my bag.

Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is very good for sunburnt skin because of its well-known healing properties. Aloe Vera contains a lot of good stuff such as vitamins, minerals, amino acids and enzymes. So if you are sunburnt, just slap a bunch of aloe on.

Hat
It was only last summer when I was out in the sun for a long period of time, I realised how important it was to wear a hat. My scalp got burnt! I thought it was dandruff at the start but soon realised it was peeling from being sunburnt. So now when I know I’ll be outside for a while, I put on a hat.

Blotting paper
My face gets quite oily in summer so I like to carry blotting paper with me to remove the extra shine. I got these Hello Kitty blotting paper from Daiso. I haven’t tried these yet. I’ve used the blotting paper from The Body Shop and they were quite good.
