Suga Bandh Waterfall is located in the Latehar district of Jharkhand. Latehar was carved out of Palamu district on 4th April 2001. The district is known for its forest resources and houses the famous Betla National Park.

'Suga' means 'Parrot' in the local language and 'Bandh' means 'Dam'. So, here is the story which the localities narrate about how the waterfall got its name Suga Bandh which means the 'Dam of the Parrot'.

Apparently once there was a parrot whose wife was very thirsty but unfortunately, there was no trace of water nearby. The worried parrot started searching for water wherever possible and finally found the waterfall, hidden in the jungle. The water of the fall was flowing at a great speed, as a result, the parrot could not collect the water so it came up with a plan. The parrot collected the tiny rocks from nearby and created a Bandh (Dam) and this is how it was able to stop the water. The parrot then collected the water and gave it to its wife.
