Well it’s been a while since we last heard solely from Sufjan Stevens, but he’s finally announced his first album in five years. Carrie & Lowell, named after his mother and stepfather, looks and sounds like Sufjan will be going back to his folk roots and dropping an album that will once again warm the hearts and send shivers down the spines of all who listen to its double-tracked vocal harmonies.
From what can be heard in the announcement teaser, Sufjan will be laying his tranquil creativity and pure emotion all over this album, a sound that makes his partial silence over the last five years feel like it never even happened. With the album artwork, track listing and background information already released, it’s safe to say that Sufjan is really pouring his past and present emotions into this release, a gesture that opens up his complexity and can reassure listeners that Carrie & Lowell could be his greatest yet.
The album is slated for a March 31st US release, and preorders are going fast. Let’s just hope the two and a half months we have to wait go even faster.
