Whether you are a recipe collector, tester, food writer or just love being in the kitchen, take note of a new digital magazine coming later this winter.

The Cook’s Cook premiers in February of 2014, a digital publication that will be published six times a year and provide food tips, stories, and information for anyone who desires a healthy, robust relationship with food.

Since subscriptions are free, make sure you subscribe today so that you don’t miss an issue!

Something For Everyone

The Cook’s Cook is described as being “the very first magazine designed to appeal to anyone who has ever wanted to write about food, from the home cook jotting notes in a journal to the professional chef who is planning to write a cookbook.”

At first, the idea of a magazine about writing about food seems to be a very narrow niche. Sure, there are thousands of bloggers that write about food – eating, gardening, recipes, cooking, preserving, feeding a family, and so on. But when you consider all of us that collect recipes and cookbooks, that are always eager to try out recipes, those that pin our favorites on Pintrest, tweet about our lunches on Twitter, the scope of The Cook’s Cook begins to take shape as a magazine that will be of interest to a great many people.

“As easy as it is to become a blogger about food, many good cooks don’t know how to write a recipe, and often writers who enjoy good food don’t know much about cooking,” states a description of the magazine. “The Cook’s Cook will bring together a community of people who have in common a love of good food and a desire to write about it.”

A Digital, Free Magazine

As much as it may seem archaic to start a new magazine in these modern times, the idea of a digital – and free – publication also feels like a bold move.

But how much are we already online? Food and recipes are huge categories on social networks, spanning millions of people, posts, and pictures. Making a new online publication entirely digital and free to the readers is a model whose time has indeed come.

One feature that cannot be pulled off in a print publication is video. Each edition of The Cook’s Cook is expected to feature video footage of professional chefs discus recipes of interest to home cooks.

The publication will be supported entirely by advertisers, who will purchase space in the magazine just as they do for print magazines. Their sponsorship will benefit all the rest of us who will look forward to reading it for no charge.

What To Expect Between the “Covers”

While the size of the issues are not yet released, the feature articles for the first issue will include a profile of chef Ben Hasty, and a feature on the disappearance of bees, a critical issue for agriculture and gardeners (and ultimately, all of us).

The regular columns and sections announced so far will include reviews of products and books, interviews, blog features, and how-to and advice columns.

Demonstrating the wide appeal this magazine should have, though, are the specialty columns on vegan and gluten-free cooking, as well as foraging and kids’ cooking. As you would expect in a publication about writing about food, there will be a regular article on writing, testing, and editing recipes and improving your overall writing skills.

And if you were wondering if there was something to the magazine’s name – The Cook’s Cook – there will be a regular article in each issue on that very topic, in which professional chefs show how to adapt recipes for commercial kitchens for your home.
