Stuck at Home Style: Casual Dresses

Welcome to week four of the strangest time of our lives. A month in and it’s starting to feel oddly normal, right? I don’t necessarily mean normal, normal, but normal in a way that really highlights just how well humans can adapt. I took a Zoom class with my favorite gym instructor today, have gotten used to my daily routine, I’m used to waiting in line, while keeping a safe 6 ft. distance from another person, to get necessities at the grocery store and now find it normal for my husband to be home every day.

Early on when these stay-at-home orders were sanctioned, I mentioned this was to be a marathon, not a sprint in this post about social-distancing style. and if you were to just fade away on the couch in pajamas all day you’d be sunk. Even minimal effort in appearance helps tremendously.

For the past few weeks, I have been playing leggings roulette. “Which leggings is she going to wear today, folks?” No way am I putting on pants with a zipper and a waistband, not after three weeks of minimal exercise and maximal eating. However, today, putting on another pair made me queasy. With warmer consistently here, I broke out my warm weather jumpsuits. Desperate for a change, the thrill I got from putting my jumpsuit you would have thought I just won the lottery. It was ridiculous.

It got me thinking about comfortable home style alternatives to wear when being stuck at home, all of which could continue to be worn beyond this lockdown. How about casual dresses and jumpsuits? I have put five different looks together that include easy ways you can dress them up a bit for a video conference if you remember my waist-up style tips for video meetings in this post.

Outfit #1

This easy jersey drawstring dress is casual and comfortable enough to wear at home. I styled it with wedge slippers from Daniel Green. For a video conference, you can easily throw a scarf around your neck, like this one from Missoni.

Not all casual, comfortable stay-at-home outfits need to be in easy stretch jersey. This Lucky Brand jumpsuit is comfortable and easy to relax in. I styled it with a black pair of flip flops from Havaianas and a black pair of tassel earrings that can be worn to dress up the look for a video call or just because you feel like you need it

So, J. Crew is having a huge site-wide sale of 40% off all purchases. A dress like this can be styled a litany of different ways. For home wear, I styled it with a pair of comfortable Fit Flops and finished the look with a necklace from Chico’s.

This feminine dress is easy to wear and comfortable. It comes in a variety of colors. For a more presentable look for a video conference, I added this shrug in navy from Hobbs and I could resist styling this look with these slippers from Versace.

This dress from Mango is a forgiving style that will not only hide any new lumps and bumps but will be easy to wear comfortably. I styled it with a long linen cardigan and a pair of flip flop slippers from Acorn.
