Streets of Laredo Tells The Perfect Folk Story with ‘Devil and the Sea’ [Premiere]

Streets of Laredo’s latest track, “Devil and the Sea,” is infused with the type of lyricism that comes from some of folk’s best storytellers. Like any good tale, it begins with a hook, “Life’s a game that I’m trying to master,” that keeps you listening for a conclusion. Streets of Laredo use instrumentation that skillfully compliments both new wave electronic rock with classic folk — meaning, synth sounds manage to gracefully swirl around a trumpet performance. Daniel Gibson, the lead vocalist on “Devil and the Sea,” could easily be the quintessential voice of folk music. His raspy vibrato is accompanied with wistful “aah’s” from the other band members and relaxed harmonies during the chorus. Streets of Laredo have a timeless sound that’s beautifully evident on “Devil and the Sea.”
