With a genre description like “garage-soul,” it’s no a surprise that we’re very much in love with Animal Omen. They traffic in the kind of hazy, 70s influenced guitar rock that’s been all the rage lately, but still manage to make the sound uniquely their own. The new EP trades on the same retro riffs that made their debut song, “Susan”, the immediate press-repeat jam it was, but the new tracks add heavy doses of groove and soul swagger. There’s a level of joy and sincerity in the music that’s rare these days — an addition that makes the album truly fun. It blends genres and moods together effortlessly and never, ever sacrifices the rock. Listen above to the EP and be sure to grab it when it drops on 8/21.
