Still Parade have been doing their homework. Taking elements from some of today’s best artists, they’re blending together an indie folk sound that breathes new life into a genre that often feels “same-y” and “boring.” Their song “Actors” is a striking collage that reinvents its components for something stunningly fresh and beautiful — textures reminiscent of The Antlers, pulsing guitar and soft percussion borrowed from Bon Iver’s last record, vocal harmonies that mimic S. Carey’s subtle swooning and a slide guitar that echoes earlier records from The Shins. The true hero of the track, though, is the guitar-filled, atmospheric bliss between the 2 and 3-minute mark. Bright, sweeping waves of sound build with the guitar before blooming into the final chorus. While “Actors” may not represent the most fancy or risky songwriting, Still Parade have clearly honed and refined common indie-folk goodness, and the end result is nothing short of a pure delight.
