PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — When he’s on the field, Brett Keisel dons the black and gold of the Steelers, but his summer when he’s off the field Keisel is wearing a different team’s black and gold.
“I’ve been rocking this pretty much the whole camp,” Keisel, Steelers defensive end, said while pointing to his baseball cap. “I’m showing my support for the Buccos.”
So you better believe that when Josh Harrison hit a home run to win the Pirates’ game against the Miami Marlins Tuesday night, Keisel was watching.
“Of course, yeah I watched it,” said Keisel. “I watched the walk off at the end and it was awesome.”
And Keisel wasn’t the only one.
“It’s the walk off,” said Larry Foote, Steelers linebacker.
“He just did a walk off,” added Ike Taylor, Steelers defensive back.
“To end on a walk off homer, that’s the best feeling in the world,” Steelers backup quarterback Bruce Gradkowski said.
Gradkowski, who grew up as a Pittsburgh kid, said he was 9-years-old the last time the Pirates made the playoffs.
“It’s awesome to see,” said Gradkowski. “I think a lot of the guys and coaches… you know, Coach Haley came up to me today [and said], ‘Man, did you see that game last night?’ So, it gets guys excited, and you know we’re sports fans… guys are competitors, we love seeing that.”
KDKA’s Jory Rand: “You’ve been here a long time. A lot of veterans on this team have never seen what October is like when you guys actually compete with a baseball team in town.”
Taylor: “We’re not competing. For sure we’re not competing. It’s definitely good for the city. You ask people what they’re doing today, ‘Hey, we’re going to the Buccos’ game.’ So two, three years ago you probably wouldn’t say that. They’re kind of taking away our crowd from training camp to be honest with you. But as long as they’re doing good, it’s good for the city.”
