Stealing Sheep are a three-piece oddity treasure from Liverpool. Rebecca Hawley, Emily Lansley, and Lucy Mercer are making rock tunes big enough for the main stage at festivals. The psychedelic pop outfit sounds a little bit like if Dirty Projectors kicked the dudes out of the band, went out and bought a few samplers, then delved deep into some ravey psych pop.
Not Real, the album containing the track above, “This Time”, was self-produced by the band, and the work as a whole solidifies their talent and cohesiveness as a band. While it was hard to pick just one highlight from the album (I changed my mind three times), “This Time” seems to best exemplify the band — the vocal harmonies are phenomenal, with three voices all hitting different notes and pitches but always effortlessly melding back together. The expert syncopation is carefully timed and the song has a soft power that’s sure to draw you in immediately.
