Hello my sweet friends! I hope that everyone had a wonderful week/weekend :) As y'all know, I took last week off from around here to focus on studying and I have to say...it paid off! I got an A on my first neuroanatomy exam, which is a major relief! I have to admit, even though I only post 2 days a week, I missed being here. That being said, let's get into today's post, shall we?
I've been hearing and seeing this little phrase on t-shirts and inspiration memes lately and it sticks with me more each time I see it: Stay In Your Own Lane.
What does it mean exactly? Well I think it can be interpreted in a few different ways:
- Don't let other people control your outcomes.
It's easy to get wrapped up in our circumstances. To play the blame game and say that we are dealing with whatever we're dealing with because of this person or that person. But in reality WE are in control of our attitudes and changing our circumstances. Where does stay in your lane come in here? Instead of wavering from left to right, blaming this or that, stand strong, in your own lane and keep moving. YOU are in charge of your attitude. YOU are in charge of changing things in your life that are bringing you down. Stay in YOUR own lane and take responsibility for your actions and attitude.
- Don't get stuck in the comparison trap.
This is a tough one, I know. It's easy to see everyone's highlight reels on social media and start wishing that you had a bigger house or a flatter stomach. Women are especially susceptible to the comparison trap. But what does swerving from lane to lane, looking at the progress that other people have made do for you? It's one thing to admire someone and be inspired by them, but it is dangerous to constantly compare where you are to where someone else is. It doesn't serve to make you feel victorious, but instead makes you feel like less than...which is so NOT true. So stay in your own lane, don't spend your precious time comparing your progress to everyone else's.
- Put your blinders up and put your energy toward getting where you want to be.
And last but not least, stay in your own lane - put your blinders up and put your time and energy toward reaching your goals. Period.
So next time you're blaming other people for your circumstances, comparing your every day to someone's highlight reel, or swerving from lane to lane wasting your energy...stay in your own lane, trust me! It'll get you further and help you appreciate your own journey.
