J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilms have a lot to celebrate because Star Wars: the Force Awakens has already beaten Titanic and Jurassic World and now on the road to beating Avatar.
According to Variety, “The Force Awakens” has earned a total $740.4 million at the domestic box office. $88.3 million of that number from this weekend alone. In addition, the movie is on its way to surpass James Cameron’s “Avatar,” which currently-held $760.5 million record.
Internationally, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is up to a $1.5 billion gross, making the J.J. Abrams pic the sixth highest-grossing movie of all time. Surely when the film premieres next week in China, it’ll jump up to third place — beating out the current fourth and fifth-place record holders, “Furious 7″ and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” within a week.
