Spike Lee’s Movie Chiraq is Already Tanking…

In November, director Spike Lee urged female students across the country to stage a ‘sex strike’ in a bid to stop sexual harassment on campus. While visiting the Stephen Colbert he said, “I think a sex strike could really work on college campuses where there’s an abundance of sexual harassments or date rapes.”

Of course, he made the controversial statement in an effort to promote his new movie Chiraq. The movie follows four women who try and fight gun crime by refusing sex.

So how did that PR stunt go? Not so good. The movie opened on December 3rd and to date has made just $2.5 million. The budget for this masterpiece? $15 million.

I guess many people don’t want to go see the on-screen version of what they can see in the news every weekend.

Or maybe the #blacklivesmatter group just didn’t care enough to support this effort. They were too busy protesting their mayor, Rahm Emanuel, whom they elected and now all of a sudden feel that he has failed them.
