Speaker Mike Johnson Wants Think Morally Pure, Supports Donald Trump Despite Agreeing

In 2021, U.S. Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) was the "architect" of Republican efforts to overturn Joe Biden's victory in the 2020 presidential election. Today, Johnson is speaker of the House and still gives the impression of being a die-hard Trumper. But in a 2016 radio interview, recently uncovered by the Meidas Touch Network (MTN), Johnson agreed when the interviewer said Trump is "morally bankrupt" and a "flawed candidate."

So what is Johnson, a bold speaker of truth or a two-faced backstabber? MTN provides insight under the headline "Speaker Mike Johnson Affirmed Trump is "Morally Bankrupt” in 2016 Interview; Johnson also called Trump a "flawed" candidate" Writes MTN's J.D. Wolf:

During a 2016 appearance on 710 AM KEEL News radio, then Louisiana state representative and congressional candidate Mike Johnson, who is now the GOP speaker of the House, affirmed that Trump was "morally bankrupt" and a "flawed" candidate.

The segment, which was posted on October 13th, 2016, appears to be a reaction to Trump's Access Hollywood tape in which Trump made the following horrific remarks about sexually preying on a married woman.

"I moved on her, and I failed. I'll admit it.

I did try and f--k her. She was married.

And I moved on her very heavily. In fact, I took her out furniture shopping. She wanted to get some furniture. I said, "I'll show you where they have some nice furniture." I took her out furniture shopping—I moved on her like a bitch. But I couldn't get there. And she was married. Then all of a sudden I see her, she's now got the big phony tits and everything. She's totally changed her look."

        Trump's Access Hollywood tape:

The MTN report then turns to Johnson's radio interview from roughly seven years ago:

The radio interview also discussed Hillary Clinton's emails, with the radio host asking Johnson about both candidates. This is where Johnson affirmed that Trump was morally bankrupt:

Host: "You talk a lot about morals, core principles, and all that. We got to talk about Donald Trump. The other shoe keeps dropping every day. Mike, what are we to do? We have two morally bankrupt people, one of whom will be our next president.

Johnson: "We do. I don't think we have any choice in the matter. I think you have to support Donald Trump, and I'll tell you why. This election cycle is about more than personalities, and every candidate is flawed. OK, we know that. We never voted for a sinless candidate. We never will. Every candidate's flawed, but it's not about personalities. This election cycle is about principles and party platforms."

MTN's Wolf sums it up this way:

Johnson, who believes he was chosen by God to become Speaker, not only downplayed Trump's awful comments, he pushed party over morality. Sure, he also attacked Clinton, but that's expected.

Trump won’t like Johnson affirming that he is "morally bankrupt" and "flawed." Trump’s loyal MAGA followers may not appreciate this either, but those with actual core principles would agree with Johnson that Trump is "morally bankrupt."

Bottom line: MAGA Mike Johnson, House speaker, is not as morally pure as he wants the public to believe. In the name of expediency, he's willing to support a candidate he admits is "morally bankrupt."
