Spanish Guitar

By Ashleylister @ashleylister

The general idea of exotic is white beaches, juicy cocktails, sexy barely dressed men and women, pounding sun on your bare skin, cool sapphire seas like advertised on TV rather often that make us pale 9-5 working Brits sigh in frustration. We want those things! It’s a place you go to in your mind when you’re stressed. However, the TV adverts don’t take me to the exotic places in my mind as I think they are rather commercial depictions of exotic and put me off slightly. What take’s me to those exotic places is music, and in particular Spanish guitar and flamenco. I wrote this Rondeau a while back, and it’s also going (yet to be tweaked a little) into my creative writing portfolio for my degree. It explains my own impression of the true exotic, and where Spanish guitar music takes me. Oh, and since it’s going in my portfolio I would appreciate any criticism (don’t hold back either).
The ring and strum of a Spanish guitarDreams are weaved out in sleepy passion, far

From reality vast world of deceitWhere quite often the faces you meet,

Dangerous, cause an everlasting scar

Listening to this music so bizarre

The echoing sounds can easily mar

The terror of life that cruelly repeats
Spanish Guitar
Murmuring passion and lust to the beat

Patterned footsteps languid in fiery heat
Sensuous dance at sunset, thoughts cast far
Silhouette forms beneath the evening star
How can you not dance to music so sweet?
Spanish guitar
