Sound of a Good Book.

By Ashleylister @ashleylister

The sound of a good book? There are many things about a book that calls to its reader; the pictured front cover, the enticing title, the precisely written blurb, the mysterious name of the author. It’s all in the work of the publisher these days. To be honest, the books that have attracted me so in the ways of the above were often bloody awful on the inside.
My favorite books are ones that have been battered, torn and written over and passed down to me. They don’t have a front cover, blurb or any mystery really in the title. The sound of a good book echoes with the reader for long after the last page is turned, the words leap out and are savoured, images dancing before the mind. The sound of a good book means being hooked on the first page. No… the first line. They are inspired and inspiring. A good book has me writing my own stuff for hours after finishing it.
However, surely the sound of a good book also depends on one’s moods? Sometimes one might love to snuggle under the covers, the bedside light glowing low, and delve into a suspenseful thriller. Or they might wish to curl under a cherry tree and read a light romance. But then I have got loads on my book list yet (my most recent ticked off read was ‘The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath’) and I haven’t nearly perfected my own sound.
I’d love to hear some reader’s idea of a perfect book?
