After leaving Florence, we took a high speed train to Naples. Once we got to the train station, we popped into the tourist info and learned that Pompeii was on the way to Sorrento. The lady told us that they have a place to leave luggage. We decided to go ahead and stop there so that we didn’t have to ride back to see it the next day.
It took us about 30 minutes to get from Naples to Pompeii. We had a great conversation with a New Zealand couple on the train ride. Love meeting new people!
Pompeii was a pretty incredible city. A volcano covered the city in 79 AD and it was later re-discovered.
They found the skeletons of the people and filled them with plaster to make them look exactly how they were found.

The ruins were really incredible to see. We walked around for about 2 hours and then decided to head to Sorrento to check into our hotel. The tourist person in Pompeii told us that the safest train was about a 1 kilometer walk from where our luggage was kept. Not to bad of a walk. EXCEPT when you have a 50 pound backpack on. We were so exhausted after walking around Pompeii and then walking to the train station that we couldn’t wait to sit down on the 30 minute train ride to Sorrento.
We couldn’t sit. The train was so packed that we had to stand with out packs on. Every time the train would stop I think we fell into people because of the extra weight! Let’s just say it was a miserable train ride.
Once we got to Sorrento, we stopped at tourist info and go directions to our hotel. It was probably a 1/2 mile walk. We were so tired but started the trek to the hotel.

And then we got to where our hotel was supposed to be. It was not there. So we went into another hotel and found out that our hotel was really close to the train station. We were so exhausted that we asked the hotel to call us a cab.
Then we got to our hotel and there was nobody there to check is in even though we were there during check in hours. We were beyond frustrated and wanted to get rid of the packs so badly! We decided to put them back on and go have a glass of wine. While drinking our wine we looked up other hotels as another option. We decided to give it one more chance and right as we were walking up, so was the lady to check us in.
The hotel was really a top floor apartment that was beautiful. We tried to explain how frustrated we were but the language barrier was to much. Our Wifi never worked while we were there so that was another disappointment. We finally dropped those packs and relaxed for a bit before heading to the coast to lay on the beach and go to dinner.

The next morning we grabbed some breakfast before heading to Almafi.
Then we got on the bus for what we thought was a 30 minute bus ride. It was 2 hours. 2 hours on the side of a mountain on the tiniest roads you can imagine. I don’t know how we didn’t hit cars or fall off. Needless to say, we were both nauseous by the time we arrived in Amalfi and couldn’t wait to just relax!
The water was beautiful but we were surprised to find rock beaches rather than sand. We still had a super relaxing day. When it was time to go, we decided to take a 45 minute ferry ride back. We were both so glad we did! It was a gorgeous, non-nauseating ride!
After we got back from Amalfi, we headed to dinner. It started raining a little and when we got back to the hotel the electricity was out on our floor only. We tried flipping the breaker but it didn’t work. We had to go knock on the ladies door to let her know. She answered the door wearing only a T-Shirt! She came up and flipped the same breaker, which didn’t work. She walked down the 4 flights of stairs and it came back on. She YOOHOOed at us from the floor below instead of coming all the way back up to make sure it worked.
Needless to say, we would not recommend this “hotel” to anyone. This leg of the trip was probably the most mixed. It was stressful, yet relaxing.
