Sony announces PlayStation Vue, an internet-based TV service
Sony has revealed PlayStation Vue, its internet-based, TV service that replaces cable.
PlayStation Vue lets users watch TV, live or on-demand, without the need of a cable subscription.
The service will include 75 channels per market. For instance, channels from CBS, Fox, NBC and Viacom will be available in North America, that includes live and on-demand. Although at this time, the line-up doesn’t include Time Warner, Disney or HBO.
Despite not detailing pricing plans, Sony said PlayStation Vue will be offered through a monthly subscription at a “fair and competitive price”. There will be no cancellation charges.
The service will launch first on PS3 and PS4, with other devices to follow later (both Sony and non-Sony), including iPads. A closed beta for select PS3 and PS4 owners will begin this month.
Vue is set to launch during the first quarter of 2015 in North America.
