Sony officially announced the next-gen gaming console from a live event in New York yesterday. Several people from the company, including the lead system architect on the PlayStation 4, Mark Cerny discussed most of the main features of the upcoming console. Although, they didn’t bother to show the console to the crowd.

However, the new console seems to be filled with lots of great features. One of the most attractive features on the PlayStation 4 is the new wireless gamepad called ”DualShock 4″, which sports a touch pad. And the new console will also feature cloud-gaming, thanks to Sony’s recent acquisition of Gaikai. According to Reuters, PS4 also have the ability to quickly stream game content to PlayStation Vita as well. User interface has also been vastly improved with better social features and a personalized design.

As for the specs, PS4 will get powered by a single-chip custom processor with a x86-64 AMD “Jaguar” CPU,  1.84 TFLOPS 8 cores  GPU with AMD next-generation Radeon based  graphics engine. The basic model will come with 8GB  memory, Bluray and DVD drive, HDMI, and Bluetooth 3.0.

Just like everybody else, I was dying to see how the PS4 looks like. Sadly, we will have to wait a bit longer to see it. Sony must be waiting to see the next X-box before revealing the PS4. Huffington Post  says Microsoft has plans to unveil their console at E3 video game expo in June. Although, we wont have to wait much long because Sony promised to launch the PlayStation 4 in this holiday season.
