Sometimes I Feel Like I Need A Vacation

Every year I take a couple of long weekends and end up at the beach or my mom’s house or sitting at home relaxing, but I never go away. In fact, the last week long trip I took was to Ottawa a few years ago. Before that, France and Italy in grade 10. And before that, my first trip, to Canada’s East Coast in an RV with my family. That’s it. That’s all.

But that doesn’t meant that I haven’t thought about getting away from things and having a real vacation. I’ve thought about it a bunch. And maybe some day I’ll get on it and take one of these trips:

New York/Boston/Chicago/St. Louis
As a baseball fan I’ve had a road trip idea for years that would have me check out 4 iconic baseball cities. Boston and Chicago have 2 of the most famous sports stadiums in the world in Fenway Park and Wrigley Field respectively. New York has the Yankees and all kinds of history to soak in. And St. Louis might be underrated, but I know that it’s home to some hardcore fans and its own baseball history that dates back more than 120 years.

France
On that school trip when I was 16 I got to spend a few days in Paris and a couple more in Nice, but I want to do more. There’s so much art and food wine and coffee and history to be taken in. I would love to spend a week or more in Paris getting up in the morning and walking around, sitting on café patios drinking coffee and then letting the day progress from there. Ooh la la.

Mexico
I’ve had friends and family take trips to Mexico over the years and everyone seems to have had a good time. I think the way to go is an all inclusive so that I can know that most everything is covered. I don’t know whether I’d want to do a nice place in Cozumel, or Punta Cana or maybe Acapulco. All I know is that I want to go.

The Dominican Republic
Like Mexico, I know people who have gone on trips to the Dominican and they’ve had fun. However, if I were to go, I know that I would want to wander through the local neighbourhoods and find some dirt fields to watch kids play baseball. It’s what they do. It’s what they love. And it’s where a lot of talent comes from. I would love to pack some bats and balls and gloves and head down there and just drop them off and know that the kids could play with real equipment. That would make me happy.

Vancouver
What, I had to have 1 Canadian spot on the list. I’ve never been west of Ontario and everyone talks about how beautiful Vancouver is. It seems like a no brainer to want to head out west to see the ocean and take in the atmosphere and beauty. I hear that I can surf and fish and sit on a beach and enjoy a whole lot of good vibes.

So, there you have it. I’ve got 5 vacations that would be awesome. Now I just need to try and figure out how to make 1 or more of them happen over the next 20 or 30 years and I’ll be a lucky dude.
