Something Purple, Something Great

By Stephanie

Not much sun and most of the time just cloudy. It rained on a few occasions, otherwise a bit humid. Anyway, my One-Day-Yellow Desert Rose is blooming! There is a bud behind this bloom that would probably open the next day. Though it didn't make it in time for this post, it should be in the next :)

In spite of the lack of sunlight, I think the weather is just good enough for my Rose-of-Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus). The flower that opened was such a large one. It was about 4 1/2" (11.5 cm) wide!

Behind this beauty I can see another huge flower bud forming. I hope it is going to be a big bloom like this one and I also wish that the petals are more well formed... greedy me, right?

The shrub is planted in a pot and it is not really tall...

The other hibiscus that is blooming at the same time is my Hibiscus acetosella 'Red Shield'.

The flower closes so fast, leaving the deep burgundy red leaves to shine in the afternoon.

My Cypress Vine is flowering less this week.

Its seeds are forming! I usually don't keep them and don't get rid of them either. Just let Nature does its work :-)

It is a notorious self-seeder. Before this vine, one was flowering at another corner of the garden. The seeds just sprout easily in the garden.

Oh, this little bloom... it is a flower from my Maranta leuconeura var. erythroneura. Glad to see this shrub flourishing well in my shade garden.

And this Phalaenopsis bellina... another beauty! I over-watered the earlier one, hence rotted. This is a new plant. I hope I won't over-water again. It is especially hard to gauge whether to water or not to during cloudy days. Anyway, love the bloom so much :-)

Have a wonderful day!!
