Buttery Homemade Breadsticks Recipe

Ever since I had the best breadsticks EVER at family-owned Red Star Pizza in Seymour, Indiana, I have not been able to get them out of my mind! Since I can’t make that kind of drive whenever the craving hits, I will forever turn to this exceptional soft, buttery homemade breadsticks recipe!

It’s not the same. I know that. I don’t know what they do to their breadsticks but man oh man is it good. Still, it’s a wonderful substitute that is even better than my recipe for quick breadsticks! For homemade breadsticks that really satisfy, this is definitely IT.

These do involve yeast so make sure you give yourself rising time. There’s a good amount of butter in these breadsticks. It keeps them nice and soft for days! Yes, DAYS. Try this great homemade buttery breadsticks recipe option. I think you’ll really enjoy it!

I found this one on She Knows.

Yield: 24 Breadsticks

A tasty recipe from She Knows! This is the ONLY homemade breadstick recipe I will use from now on. Our family gobbled these up!

Ingredients

  • 1/3 Cup Sugar
  • 2 1/2 Packets Yeast
  • 2 Cups Warm Water
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 5 1/2 Cups Flour
  • 1 Cup Butter, Melted
  • 1 Cup Parmesan Cheese OR Cinnamon and Sugar for Dessert Breadsticks

Instructions

  1. 350* oven. Line two cookie sheets with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. Combine Sugar, Yeast, Water, Salt, and 2 Cups of Flour in a large mixing bowl. Combine. Let stand 10 minutes.
  3. Mix in 3 1/2 Cups Flour and 1/2 Cup Melted Butter. (save the other 1/2 Cup Butter for brushing on prior to baking).
  4. Using a dough hook, knead between 3 - 5 minutes.
  5. Divide dough into 3 parts. Roll 1/3 of dough into an 8 x 8 inch square.
  6. Cut into 8 strips using a pizza cutter (for easy slicing) and place onto baking sheet 1" apart. I twist my breadsticks before placing on prepared baking sheet.
  7. Repeat.
  8. Spread Butter onto breadsticks with pastry brush. Sprinkle with Parmesan Cheese.
  9. Place breadsticks in warm place and let rise for 30 minutes.
  10. Bake 15-20 minutes at 350* until golden brown.
  11. Remove from oven and coat with another layer of Butter.
  12. Serve warm.
