I used to wake up everyday grabbing my phone to check all the notifications on Facebook, mentions on Twitter, and emails first thing in the morning. Rest of my day actually depend on these notifications because if I see an annoying message like one from my girlfriend complaining about how I forgot to reply to her message, I would feel depressed throughout rest of the day trying to find a way to apologize to her. Sometimes, I couldn’t even work. Well, it goes without saying that I used to be a huge social media addict.
It took me a long… long time to skip this routine and come up with a new schedule. Now, I turn-off my phone every night and when I wake up, I do a little workout, have a coffee, eat my breakfast, and read something useful, before even touching the phone. Also, now I log-in to Facebook and Twitter only twice a day to check and reply to notifications. I can’t express enough how much good came out of this simple change. Actually, this website you’re reading on right now wouldn’t be here without that simple change of my schedule.
Looking back, I actually laugh at myself thinking how I used to live like a zombie, addicted to social networks and checking in to Facebook and Twitter to respond immediately to every Like, mention and comment, thinking over and over about all the negative comments I get on my photos and depressing status updates.
There are both good and bad in everything. Social networks can be used for good. Although, it’s up to you to find your limit and learn to manage it. According to a recent study, it has been proved that using Facebook actually makes people feel sad. So, what I’m trying to say it that using too much and too many of social networks could affect badly for your life. Trust me, as a person who went through a social media rehab, I know how it is.
So, try to manage your time before you become a zombie. Step outside once in a while and hang around with some real friends.
