Here is a quick roundup of some of the latest happenings in the social media world.

Facebook

Facebook closed its purchase of Instagram and officially welcomed the photo-sharing app to the “family” on Thursday:

Hootsuite

The HootSuite team announced on Thursday that it had acquired social media platform Seesmic for an undisclosed amount of money:

“Like Seesmic, Hootsuite offers a suite of social media management tools, with even more options for small business and enterprise customers,” says the Seesmic Blog. “Initially, support for both products will continue, however we will soon be bringing everyone into one great platform.”

“I have always had a lot of respect for Seesmic’s CEO, Loïc Le Meur and the role Seesmic has played in advancing social business,” says HootSuite CEO, Ryan Holmes. “We are thrilled to welcome Seesmic’s users into the HootSuite family.”

The only major competitor left in Hootsuite’s category is now TweetDeck.
